Racism is Systemic

An individual who participates in a system of supremacy that is designed to elevate one culture above all the other cultures in a geographic region doesn’t necessarily have to be bigoted or prejudiced. They may simply be complicit by their own silence or ignorance.

The American legal system was built on the idea that white europeans needed to “settle” and thus subdue and subjugate the people they displaced. The economies of violence that grew out of that are ones premised on the idea that european cultural values were superior and should be implemented by force.

The legacy of those politics are still with us today. Our system is still racist, even though most people are no longer prejudiced or bigoted.

#Bigotry and #racism are not the same thing.
